Our Harvest Festival

Harvest is a time when we thank God for all he has bestowed upon us. We also took time to remember those who are not so fortunate as us, by having a charity event to raise money for two local charities, the Secours Populaire, and the Restos du Coeur, the latter which we support all year round by donations of food. We also supported another of our usual charities; Hope for South Africa's Children, with a bookstall.

After our service we crossed to the hall opposite where we had a variety of attractions...bring and buy, produce, raffle, guess the weight of Monsieur X, who turned out to be the originator of the whole idea, Roger Armson. Thanks to the generosity of our congregation there were plenty of wonderful things on offer with the result that we raised a total of 536.80€. Roger's Bring and Buy stall raised 220.90€, Trish's produce stall made 70.90€, Barry's raffle made 138€, and the Guess the Weight brought in 51€. Finding the winner of this last one proved tricky as some of our congregation insisted on guessing the weight in stones and pounds instead of kilograms!

Of course we also had our popular bring and share lunch organised by Alison and Ros, and, as usual, we had a wonderful selection of food. Nigel ran the bar for us and took 56€.

After expenses were taken out we were able to give each of our local charities a good contribution, which was much appreciated, as the number of people who need help is steadily increasing in these difficult times

This year, we picked one of the worst days for inclement weather, with rain and wind lashing the Hérault. Despite this, we had a wonderful turn out. Our thanks to all who helped in this event. Roger 's inspiration was so successful that I am hope this will be an annual event from now on.
