Nuns in battered old 2CVs

LOOK out for nuns driving around in battered old 2CVs if you happen to be in the Vendée this summer.

For nuns from Luçon diocese are taking to the roads and visiting towns, villages and beaches in the holiday hotspot to encourage more people to think about devoting their lives to God.

Sister Nadia and Sister Anne, from the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary community, are one of three groups of nuns taking part. They said they “chose 2CVs so as to brush the dust off old ideas and give our tour a fresh, humorous touch”.

Sister Anne said their “drive” was part of an initiative launched by Pope Francis and each car has a large logo with his image.

They will be calling in to villages and beaches parking in the main areas to meet people.

“We live in joy, having given our lives to God. We want to tell people about the joy of being loved by him, and tell people we meet about his love."

Called the "Dodoche Tour" after the nickname for the Deux Chevaux 2CV, it has dates this spring in Fontenay-le-Comte (April 18), Challans (May 9), Montaigu (June 6) and dates on various beaches during July.
